Meaning & usage
Pound (£) identifies a currency or monetary amount.
Place it beside a number using the convention of your locale; spell out the currency when a sign could be ambiguous.
U+00A3 identifies this exact pound form; copying the character preserves its Unicode identity, while its appearance depends on the font or emoji renderer.
The pound sign £ commonly denotes British pounds sterling. Other currencies also use pound terminology, so GBP can remove ambiguity in international price lists.
